خفايا الارض – The Secrets of Our Land looks into how specific plants that are commonly found in Qatar function as cultural and religious signifiers within Gulf and Islamic contexts.
Historically, plants operated as markers of healing, protection, survival, and seasonal knowledge. Today, in a rapidly urbanized environment, these associations are fading as plants are increasingly perceived only in terms of their functional properties.
Drawing from oral histories, regional folklore, Islamic references, the project identifies symbolic meanings embedded within selected plants. Each plant is simplified and abstracted to distill its symbolic essence, then reconstructed through illustration.
These illustrations are displayed through manual printing techniques and on different paper types that support the organic nature of the illustrations.
